As seen in our community

Everything on this page is written by us, from the studio floor. No borrowed logos and no clippings we did not earn, just what we think about the work and what has changed here lately.

Three pieces about how we work

Longer reads on the thinking behind the chair, written by the people standing behind it.

What holistic actually means in a barber chair

The word usually turns up on a candle. In here it means one conversation covering your cut, your color and your beard, with the same person accountable for all three.

Most grooming is sold in fragments. The cut happens in one place, the beard gets tidied somewhere else, and color is a separate appointment with somebody who has never seen how your hair sits when it is dry. Three people, three opinions, and no one holding the whole picture.

Head to toe means we start from the shape of your head and work outward: hairline, crown, growth pattern, the way the beard meets the fade, how much grey you want to keep. It is one plan rather than three, and it gets written down so the next visit picks up where this one finished.

The practical result is boring in the best way. Fewer surprises, fewer corrections, and a shape that still makes sense at week five when the appointment is a memory and you are on your own with it.

Seven days on Wooster Street

Opening every day of the week was not a growth strategy. It was the only honest answer to how people in this neighbourhood actually live.

SoHo does not keep office hours. The people in the chairs work shifts, run rooms, fly on Tuesdays and get their one free morning on a Sunday. A book that closes on Mondays quietly tells a third of them to go somewhere else.

So the floor is staffed every day. Weekends stopped being the exception and became part of the ordinary week, and the later chairs get held back for people who cannot physically get here before six.

It costs more to run and it is worth it. The measure of a neighbourhood shop is not how busy Saturday looks. It is whether somebody can get a decent cut on the day they are actually free.

The consultation is the haircut

Five minutes of talking before anything is switched on is the difference between a cut you like and a cut you tolerate for a month.

Almost every bad haircut is a communication failure rather than a technical one. Two people used the same word for different things, nobody checked, and the clippers went on anyway.

The fix is unglamorous. We ask what you liked and hated about the last one, how long you spend on it in the morning, and what you want it to look like in three weeks rather than in the mirror at the end. Then we say back what we heard, in plain terms, before starting.

If what you are describing will not hold on your hair, that is the moment to say so. It is a short awkward conversation now instead of a long quiet disappointment later.

What has changed here lately

Short updates from the floor, newest first.

  1. Online booking is open

Requests now come straight through this site at any hour. Send one and we confirm the chair by phone or email, usually the same day.

  2. Barbers on the floor every day

The book is open seven days a week. Weekends are no longer the exception, and the later chairs are held back for people who cannot get here before six.

  3. Color joins the chair

Grey blending, gloss and creative color now sit alongside cuts and beard work, so one visit can cover the lot instead of three.
